I have lizards on my kitchen ceiling! They have been dubbed 'The Christmas Lizards' and I suspect they are staying! Indeed I hope they are staying, they make me smile, they are crazy, they are laced with the laughter of my children.

So why 'Christmas Lizards'? Well you see a huge part of our Christmas is the advent calender. My children adore these, as daily pockets reveal new gifts and the customary golden chocolate coin. This year the calenders offered up vintage ornaments for their tree, pencils, jewellery, magical face cloths that appeared with water, key rings and some sticky colourful lizards...see there was a link.
My kids had the best fun throwing these rainbow reptiles at walls, screeching with laughter as they watched them roly-poly back down to earth only to begin the journey skywards all over again! 'Mum watch this, watch this!' soon echoed around my kitchen as little hands stood hurling their new friends at my fridge! And then Poppy threw too hard and the blue one was suddenly dangling by one claw from the ceiling! We all laughed, we waited for it to fall...it didn't!
The next day it was still there and so all his friends joined him, with screams of laughter and BIG THROWING, and before you knew it my ceiling looked like this!

The Christmas Lizards have been a big part of Christmas this year, funny isn't it, how family traditions begin! I know that if they do ever fall off, they of course will need saving to be hurled at the ceiling again next December!
The Christmas Lizards are here to stay, yippee, just what every home needs, festive reptiles!
And so the advent calenders slowly have emptied and eventually it was time to say a sad goodbye. I think Mummy was as sad as the kiddies when they were all empty! My drama queens kids went into grief as they were taken down and folded away!
But as every good Christmas storyteller knows, all sad goodbyes are quickly replaced by a happy hello. In our house, advent calenders down means only one thing...stockings up!
And so with stockings hung and lizards still clinging to the kitchen ceiling, Christmas Eve truly commences as we celebrate all that is Team George together! If you've been around here for a while you will know how apt it is that one of out festive traditions should end up looking this insane!
